The ultimate objective of any safety management system is to prevent injury and ill health in the workplace. To accomplish this it is necessary to develop in-house safety rules and procedures. Usually, in-house safety rules cover general rules, specialized work rules, specialized work permits and procedures. In formulating in-house safety rules, it is necessary to have prior consultation with relevant staff to gain recognition and ownership and ensure they are clearly instructed as to what rules they should follow.
