Health and Safety Courses for Graduation Engineers

(HKIEC)Health and Safety for Graduate Engineer (Processing Industry)

Professional engineers play an important role in occupational safety and health. Safe design and safe operation of engineering works not only prevents accidents but also increases productivity. This in turn strengthens the competitiveness of the organisation. Engineers have the responsibility for safe operation and maintenance of the plant and equipment during production through safety management system. To enable engineers to fulfil these duties, they need to possess knowledge of safety and health that is seldom included in formal curriculum during their engineering education. The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers recognises this situation and jointly organises safety training courses with the Occupational Safety & Health Council for all graduate engineers.

Highlights：	Module I: Safety Legislation and Standards Basic health and safety legislation for industries; statutory responsibilities and liabilities of employers, executives and employees Interpretation of common legal terms, eg, ensure, reasonably practicable Module II: General Safety and Control General hazards in workplaces and prevention Electrical safety, machinery and plant safety, manual handling, confined spaces, chemical safety, fire safety and housekeeping, etc Module III: Safety Management Modern safety management systems Safety and health performance of Hong Kong industries Organisations of occupational safety and health in Hong Kong Costs of accidents and benefits of safe jobs Module IV: Occupational Health Physical hazards such as noise, heat, decompression sickness, etc and prevention Prevention of chemical and dust hazards in workplaces Module V: Risk Management Hazard identification Risk evaluation, analysis and control Hierarchies of control
Duration (Hour)：	15 hours
Instructor：	Professional or OSHC consultant
Language：	Cantonese supplemented with English notes
Prerequisites：	Graduate engineers under the HKIE training scheme A
Remark：	● A joint OSHC & HKIE Certificate of 100% Attendance will be issued for full attendance. Module attendance will be endorsed. ● Students who are absent from the class, late or leave earlier for more than 30 minutes in class will be regarded as absent for that session. This course will be held from January to June each year.
