Lasers emit high intensity visible and invisible optical radiation which are widely used in the industrial, medical, aesthetic, telecommunication, and education domains. Lasers may present hazards to operators and working staff. Serious risks of injury to eye and skin can result from lack of awareness of laser safety.
For public safety concern, The Hong Kong SAR government published the “Laser Safety Guidance Notes for Industry, Display and Entertainment” in March 2005. Department of Health has launched the Medical Device Administrative Control System in 2005 to regulate and promote the safe use of medical devices (including laser devices) in Hong Kong.
