Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) are useful tools for above-ground works and are widely used in various workplaces. Although their operation seems simple, there are several risks involved which can lead to serious accidents, such as trapping, falling from heights, or even overturning of the MEWP. Operators of MEWP must undergo operational and safety training, and supervisors and managers responsible for MEWP works also need training to implement relevant safety measures to prevent accidents.
OSHC and the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) jointly organize the "Mobile Elevating Work Platforms Supervisor Training Course". This course is specifically designed for supervisors and managers responsible for MEWP works. It teaches not only the often-overlooked "accident traps" and safety precautions in MEWP operations but also emphasizes how to choose the appropriate MEWP based on work procedures and environments, as well as how to conduct risk assessments to ensure the safety of operators and nearby individuals. Venue and property management personnel can also enroll in this course to understand the safety requirements of MEWP operations and to supervise effectively, ensuring that MEWP works can be conducted safely on-site.
