Abrasive wheels are mainly used in the construction and manufacturing industries for metal-surface finishing processes through grinding and cutting. The high-speed operation of abrasive wheels enables the job to be finished within a short period of time. However, at the same time, it creates a number of hazards such as noise, bursting of wheels, fire and chips flying out at high speed, etc. which sometimes results in serious accidents. Lack of safety awareness and the absence of a competent person are two of the main causes of accident. The Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Abrasive Wheels) Regulations request the proprietor to employ competent person to mount and replace the abrasive wheel properly. The course aims at providing basic safety training to those who need to operate the abrasive wheels, as well as inspecting / mounting /replacement of abrasive wheels with a view of satisfying the legislative requirements.
